One of the best things about Earthbound is how grounded it feels, even when you’re dealing with out-of-this-world situations. The charm of Earthbound is that homey feeling, and if you live in/around Shinjuku, Tokyo, you’ll be able to experience some of that magic in real life soon enough.

The Enjoyment of Life Exhibition, run by Hobonichi (a company fronted by Earthbound’s creator, Shigesato Itoi), is going to turn the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building into a real-life representation of Fourside’s department store. The transformation takes place from April 29th to May 4th, 2022, and those in the area can check things out for free!

In order to attend the event, you’ll have to register for tickets online, and you’re only allowed to reserve two in advance. That said, anyone elementary school age or younger can get in without a ticket.

The event itself will obviously be Earthbound-themed, but there will be some Earthbound merch available as well. The bulk of this merch is already available via the Hobonichi online store, and includes the following items.

  • Capless Fountain Pen: 22,000 JPY
  • Carry Bag (3 colors): 2,750 JPY
  • Clayman Doll: 3,850 JPY
  • Dog-like Person (Boney) Doll: 8,800 JPY
  • Franklin Badge: 3,850 JPY
  • Earthbound Cotton Tote Bag: 1,980 JPY
  • Stacking Mug (Fourside): 1,100 JPY
  • Me and My Friends Dolls: 11,000 JPY
  • Mr. Saturn Headband: 2,420 JPY
  • Mr. Saturn’s Words: 2,970 JPY
  • YOJO Tape: 660 JPY

If you’d like to take a closer look at each of those items, you can find a complete gallery here.

The real stars of the merch show are the Replica Screen Series Moonside picture and Mr. Saturn plush seen above. These two items can only be purchased at the in-person event, so they’re sure to become collector’s items in the very near future!

While many of us won’t be able to attend this amazing event in person, Hobonichi is sure to take some pictures and videos to share online. As soon as they’re made available, we’ll share them with you here.
