We figured it was just a matter of weeks before it happened, but now it’s official. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now the second highest-grossing animated movie of all-time worldwide.
Disney’s Frozen previously held the second-place spot for animated movies worldwide, sitting at $1.284 billion. Now The Super Mario Bros. Movie has usurped that throne, as its raked in $1.288 billion worldwide.
The only film left for Mario to surpass is Frozen 2, which managed to pull in a staggering $1.45 billion worldwide. At this point, it seems pretty unlikely that Mario will be able to reach that lofty height, but stranger things have happened!
