Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is an on-rails shooter that launched for the Wii all the way back in 2007. Now it seems Capcom may be reviving that name for a new film in the Resident Evil universe.

While not officially announced by Sony or Capcom, Sudbury, the largest city in Northern Ontario, Canada, has revealed that they’ve received $2 million CAD in funding for a new film project. This project is titled “The Umbrella Chronicles,” so it’s no doubt tied to the Resident Evil franchise. For those who don’t know, Sudbury was one of the filming locations for Welcome to Raccoon City, the 2021 live-action Resident Evil film.

Welcome to Raccoon City did tease a sequel in its final moments, and any official recognition of that is yet to be announced. With ‘The Umbrella Chronicles’ revealed, it certainly seems like a follow-up to that 2021 movie release is kicking off.
