Alan Wake's opening quote from Stephen King cost just $1

Ever wanted to create a project with a bit of prose from legendary author Stephen King? Well, apparently all it’ll take is a dollar to secure the rights.
For those who don’t know, Alan Wake kicks things off by sharing the following line from Stephen King:
“Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear.”
In a chat with Eurogamer, Remedy boss Sam Lake mentioned that he really wanted to start off Alan Wake with a line from King, but he didn’t realize just how easy it would be to pull together.
“Creating the original Alan Wake, I really, really desperately wanted a quote from him to start it off. It’s my understanding he wanted $1 for us to get the rights to use it. [It was] so very generous.”
Stephen King has actually optioned his short stories to filmmakers for just $1 for a number of years now, and it looks like he’ll offer the exact same to all sorts of creators out there. With this information out in the wild now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more games featuring lines from King!
