Masahiro Sakurai is back with another installment in his game development video series. This time around, he’s shared a video that fits into the ‘Game Concepts’ category.

Sakurai says that once things settled after the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo’s then-president Satoru Iwata approached him about their upcoming handheld device, which ended up being the Nintendo 3DS; he asked for Sakurai’s consultation on the 3DS specs and for him to create an exclusive game for the system, which resulted in the creation of Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Sakurai said the Touch! Generations games on the Nintendo DS is what inspired the direction he took for the gameplay mechanics in Kid Icarus: Uprising, since most games in the Touch! Generations covered the casual market; he wanted to create a game that would lean more towards the hardcore fans.

Finally, Sakurai once again shared interest in seeing Kid Icarus: Uprising making its way off the 3DS by saying he’d like to “play on a bigger screen with smoother graphics.” Unfortunately, it seems like nothing is in the works for the time being.
