Falcom’s Trails series has really been picking up steam outside of Japan in recent years. One way or another, the franchise has been steadily building a fanbase in NA/EU, and the Switch releases of past installments have no doubt helped that. It’s been a great thing to see, and developer Falcom couldn’t be happier.

In an interview with Push Square, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo was asked what it’s been like seeing the Trails franchise success outside of Japan. As you’ll read below, Kondo never thought things could have gone as well as they are.

Ten years ago, we never believed that a story-focused JRPG series like Trails would find support in the West. From that perspective, this has been very moving. At the same time, we felt relief knowing that, when these titles are made with care and dedication, there are ardent players not only in Asia but the world over. That fact is a great source of motivation.
