Nintendo has released their annual report for the fiscal year ending March 2023, and while it’s mostly filled with the usual business-minded chatter, there is some information on just how much money Nintendo’s most notable employees are pulling in.

In particular, Nintendo has shared the earnings for their top 5 earners, which you can see in full below.

  • Shuntaro Furukawa: $2.51m
  • Shigeru Miyamoto: $2.02m
  • Shinya Takahashi: $1.61m
  • Satoru Shibata: $1.19m
  • Ko Shiota: $910,000

As you can see, the higher-ups at Nintendo are doing more than fine. That said, these aren’t the kinds of figures you’d expect to see for the highest of the high at a big-name company. We usually see the major executives and developers pulling in at least double, if not triple-digit salaries well into the millions. For example, back in 2020 we learned that Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick had raked in an astronomical $154 million.

Yes, this is how it should be. Japanese people are very humble modest people. The world would be a lot better financially if it wasn't for a small minority of people being overpaid.

Yea it's a it different over there. I also hear that working for Nintendo of Japan is a real treat since they truly take care of their people.

And it's not like Bobby actually needs all that money....

I don't understand what culture has to do with how much the higher ups are paid. Nintendo compared to others is still a small company that has only around 7k of staff if we're only going to involve EPD alone.

Obviously the CEO's and higher ups will be paid less because of it. Once Nintendo builds their new headquarters in 2025, their salaries will get higher.

I guess culture does pay a small amount of how things have to be but I wouldn't make that the main reason why it is what it is.
