Times Square in New York City is one of the most well-known areas in the world, and it also happens to be one of the biggest epicenters for advertising. Big-name companies pay incredible amounts of money to get their content plastered on the screens in NYC, but did you know that anyone with some time and a little bit of cash can do the same?

It turns out Times Square has a special billboard that gives anyone the chance to advertise whatever they see fit. The ads have to be approved by the company that owns the board, of course, but if your ad is given the go-ahead, you can cough up $40 and advertise whatever you want for 15 seconds.

We’re not quite sure how it happened, but the Pikmin fans of the world have gathered together to bombard this special billboard with anything and everything Pikmin related, all on the name of spreading the word on Pikmin 4. From Olimar twerking to evil-looking Pikmin, the billboard has been non-stop Pikmin love for about a week now, all of it aimed at raising awareness for Pikmin 4.

Nintendo has nothing to do with this guerilla advertising campaign, but you can bet someone within the company is pretty happy to see the Pikmin fans speaking out. Let’s hope the tactic works, and Pikmin 4 opens bigger than any Pikmin game before it!
