5 months back, Nintendo took the Wii U servers for Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon offline. They did so without any warning, and fans had no idea if they’d ever be operational again. Surprisingly, it seems Nintendo was doing some behind the scenes tinkering, and that lengthy round of maintenance has come to an end.

Today, without any explanation, Nintendo has brought the Wii U servers for Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon back online. Back when the servers were yanked, we eventually learned that Nintendo did so because of a vulnerability, but the Big N never specified what the exact issue was. Apparently, it took quite a bit of work to patch up, but things are back in action now.

How long will these Wii U servers remain online? Your guess is as good as ours! If you want to enjoy the online components of these titles, you better hop on and play while you still can, as you never know when they’ll go dark again.
