Nintendo has just set a new record for themselves, and it’s thanks to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

In their Q1 report for fiscal year 2024, Nintendo revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom reached a whopping 18.51 million units. That’s an absolutely incredible achievement, especially when you consider the game moved all of those units between just May 12th and June 30th, 2023.

According to Nintendo, the astronomical sales of Tears of the Kingdom helped score Nintendo the highest sell-through of first-party software ever for a first quarter. Altogether, Nintendo sold just over 52 million units of software in Q1 of 2024, so plenty of other games did big numbers, but Tears of the Kingdom is obviously the lion’s share of that figure.

Along with that, Nintendo has also seen the highest-ever revenue and operating profit ever for a first quarter. Again, a big part of this comes from the success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but another massive pat on the back goes to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The runaway success of that film brought with it another major revenue stream, filling Nintendo’s pockets even more.
