The original Okami saw release on the PS2 back in 2006, and it was a critical darling, but not a major sales success. Okami came about through a partnership with then-named Clover Studio, which would eventually spin off into its own company you now know as PlatinumGames.

Over the years, Capcom has re-released Okami on a number of different platforms, including the Wii and Switch. There was even a spin-off sequel for the Nintendo DS called Okamiden. While these re-releases and sequels didn’t light the sales charts ablaze, they’ve maintained a slow burn towards a new milestone.

In Capcom’s latest update on million-sellers, we can see that the Okami franchise has reached 4 million sold. While it’s taken close to two decades to achieve that figure, it’s somewhat impressive that the franchise has achieved that number with a major focus on remakes/re-releases of just one game. It makes you wonder if Capcom will ever return to the series for a new installment.
