Masahiro Sakurai is back with another installment in his game development video series. This time around, he’s shared a video that fits into the ‘Graphics’ category.

In this video, Sakurai talks about the challenge of taking characters from different games and adding them into one. In this case, when developing a Smash Bros. game, adding Wario, who has a cartoony appearance, and Ganondorf, who has a more realistic look, would not look good together, so you’ll have to either add or remove some elements to make them look as close as possible. Sakurai introduced the five things he does to facilitate this:

  1. Lowering the saturation
  2. Make Textures Similarly Detailed
  3. Tweak Body Proportions
  4. Make Refinements As Needed
  5. Express Characters in Realistic Ways

He goes into more detail for each step in the video, which you can check above.
