Get a first look at Jean-Claude Van Damme in Mortal Kombat 1

Back when Mortal Kombat 1 was announced, NetherRealm Studios revealed that Jean-Claude Van Damme would be available as an alternate character skin for Johnny Cage. Today brings us the first look at that skin, and you can see it in action below.

As some already know, the original Mortal Kombat game started out as a game focusing on Jean-Claude Van Damme. The creators of Mortal Kombat were doing the best they could to secure the rights to Van Damme’s name and likeness to have him appear in a game, but the deal fell through. That led to the team scrapping those plans, which then paved the way for Mortal Kombat as we know it.

Now, 20+ years later, we’re finally seeing the team realize their original idea with this Jean-Claude Van Damme skin. Crazy how things managed to play out after all this time!
