Hackers using Ogerpon to softlock Pokémon Scarlet And Violet players

Pokémon Scarlet And Violet’s Teal Mask DLC is out right now, and many have been enjoying all the new content it offers. Unfortunately, it appears the DLC has also introduced a bug that can softlock your game, and some nefarious trainers are using that as an exploit.

As you may know, the Teal Mask introduced the Pokémon Ogerpon, who has a rather unique Terastalization ability. That’s where the troublemakers are zeroing in, as they’re using Ogerpons with modified Tera Types to softlock online battles.

Ogerpon has a limited number of available Tera Types due to it’s unique Terastallized states, and bad actors are modifying their Ogerpons to give them “impossible” Tera Types. If you encounter one of these impossible types, your game will freeze when they Terastalize. The only way to get out of this is to quit the battle, which of course, raises the rank for the cheaters.

Pokémon Co. hasn’t announced any plans to fix this issue, although there’s no doubt they’ll work up some sort of solution. When they share word on the patch for this problem, we’ll let you know.
