Ed Boon tried to get John Wick for Mortal Kombat 1
Yeah, I'm thinking he's out
Mortal Kombat 1, much like recent entries in the franchise, is going to include a number of special guest characters. We’ve already seen a few of these, such as Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Homelander and more. There’s sure to be more surprise cameos in the future, but one character you won’t see make the jump is John Wick.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon had a chat with Rolling Stone about all things Mortal Kombat, and that included some discussion about the action cinema greats that inspired the game. It’s in that conversation where Boon reveals that his team tried to get John Wick as a cameo for Mortal Kombat 1, but it never came to be.
When we were making Mortal Kombat (1992), the whole team was in the midst of Bloodsport, Enter the Dragon, and all the Terminator movies. I could certainly see the John Wicks of the world… as a matter of fact, that is one of the ones that we tried to get – John Wick – in Mortal Kombat, and we didn’t get it.
