Hojo Studio announced today that their upcoming game The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga has got SXSW Sydney 2023 in such a flap that they’re throwing an official gala to launch it on Wednesday, October 18th at Fortress Sydney.

The fourth game from Hojo Studio features fast-paced “swoop & poop” gameplay as you take on the role of an associate in the pigeon mafia tasked with taking back the old neighborhood from your enemies. “We’re thrilled that The Godfeather will be taking flight at SXSW Sydney,” said Rick Salter of Hojo Studio. “Working with Screen Australia and SXSW Sydney has given us an opportunity to demonstrate how independent creative studios can develop original IP and tell unique stories across a variety of media. For an Indie studio like ours, support from Screen Australia and SXSW Sydney has been instrumental in getting our game to launch.”

Screen Australia Head of Online and Games Lee Naimo said, “We’re delighted to have been able to support the extremely talented team at Hojo Studios and the development of The Godfeather. What’s not to love about this light-hearted and entertaining game? With an unruly pigeon at the centre of the gameplay, vibrant graphics and plenty of targets to keep you on your toes – players will be hooked in no time. We’re so excited for this team to be selected for the inaugural SXSW Sydney - it’s next stop before it takes flight to gamers around the globe.”

Taking place over a packed week from October 15 to 22, SXSW Sydney is the first time the famed Austin event will take place outside of North America and will platform the best and brightest minds from Tech & Innovation, Games, Music, Screen and Culture.

Luke Lancaster, Head of Games at SXSW Sydney said, “SXSW Sydney 2023 is all about celebrating creativity in all its forms. Working with Hojo Studio to launch The Godfeather aligns perfectly with the core values of SXSW Sydney, and we’ve never been more excited about the prospect of pooping on things.”
