A GameStop robbery attempt has ended with an alleged Pokémon card thief being shot and killed

An unnamed man had entered GameStop in an attempt to steal 5 boxes of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet trading cards. When the man was spotted, a GameStop employee pulled a gun from his waist and shot the fleeing man once in the side. While the man got outside, he collapsed soon after, and the police arrived to escort him to the hospital. Three hours later, the man had passed away.

This robbery attempt happened in Florida, which is a “stand your ground” state that allows the use of deadly force when someone feels threatened or unsafe. The alleged robber never showed any weapons or threatened the GameStop employee, meaning the “stand your ground” law might not apply here.

The GameStop employee has been charged with manslaughter and is currently in the Broward County Jail under $25,000 bail.
