Koumajou Remilia II getting new playable character and boss rush mode

Global game publisher CFK (headed by Chang-sig Koo) is proud to announce today (10/19) that new content is to be added to the December 14th, 2023 Switch release of new gothic horror Touhou action game Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem.

Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem is the sequel to side-scrolling action game Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, a spinoff of the Touhou Project(東方Project) series, beloved by fans around the world.

Following the previous entry into the series, popular illustrator Banpai Akira contributed to this work as well, adding a dark character design to pair with the notable atmospheric sound and gameplay improvements over the previous version of the game. In addition, the extremely talented voice actresses have returned to breathe life into the characters with their voice acting.

We at CFK are proud to announce additional content for Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem ahead of its global release. This includes a new playable character and a boss rush mode, both expected to excite players’ interest as these features add more playability to the main game.

The two new modes will be unlocked on clearing the Phantasm stage. The new additions are as follows:

● Introducing the two new features of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem

1) Playable character - Reimu Hakurei

Reimu Hakurei, protagonist of the previous game Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, becomes a playable character.

Reimu Hakurei, shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine with the ability to float, is slated to appear as a boss who blocks Sakuya Izayoi’s way forward in Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem.

Reimu Hakurei uses her whip-like close range ‘purification rod’ and her long range ‘ofuda’ paper charms, both introduced in the previous game, along with her unique emergency ability, ‘sliding,’ which allows her free movement through the air.

This planned addition gives players a completely different way to enjoy the game when placed alongside Sakuya Izayoi, the original protagonist.

2) Boss rush mode

In this mode, players will be able to topple all of the Touhou characters that appear as bosses in Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem.

There are a number of boss routes lined up, including the Hakurei route and the Scarlet Devil Mansion route, changing up the characters who will appear.

● Add many new features

The “Extra-Easy” mode, which was added to its previous work and received favorable reviews, will be added. Users can easily enjoy the game by adjusting the level of difficulty. In “Extra-Easy” mode, the enemy’s HP and attack power are lowered.

In addition, a “challenge” element that allows you to check the achievements of various difficulties achieved while playing the game, and a “collection” element that allows you to enjoy events or BGM that you have experienced once while playing the game will be added.

● Pre-orders for the limited first edition package are currently open! In cooperation with Japanese outlets, original merch is ready and waiting

CFK is currently accepting pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch™ physical release of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem and the limited first edition to be released in Japan. The limited first edition includes a number of perks in addition to the main game which are as follows:

• Special box with new illustration by Banpai Akira
• Manual + artbook (remake) (36 pages total)
• Original soundtrack (remaster) (2 CDs with 31 tracks total)
• Special acrylic plate with new artwork by illustrator Banpai Akira

In addition to these goodies, CFK has been working with Amazon Japan, animate, AmiAmi, and other famous Japanese retailers to create additional per-order merch to be included in each package sold. Pre-orders will close at each location once these packages are sold, and some sites may not be able to ship outside of Japan.

In addition to the pre-order event in Japan, CFK is planning to release a physical Nintendo Switch™ version of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem for fans around the world. Details will be announced at a later date.

Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem was first unveiled to the public last September at the Tokyo Game Show 2022. Gamers are flocking back to the Koumajou Remilia series after the playable sequel, Koumajou Remilia 2: Stranger’s Requiem, was revealed at PlayX4 2023. The official website for the game is now open, introducing the various contents the game has in store to players.

In addition, Koumajou Remilia 2: Stranger’s Requiem participated in the concluded Steam Next Fest, held from October 9th to 16th, and released a demo version, both successfully garnering the attention of players around the world before its release.

Alongside the announcement of this information, CFK will be unveiling an official website for Koumajou Remilia 2: Stranger’s Requiem so that players will have free access to new information about this game and its release.

The previous entry into the series, Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, became a fan favorite when the developers reworked the game with HD graphics and added new gameplay elements, taking the game to a whole new level, and Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem is expected to reach that same level of fandom. Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger’s Requiem is set to release to Steam and the Nintendo Switch™ on December 14th.
