Whenever a new Sonic game comes out, diehard fans of the blue blur love to dig deep into everything the game has to offer. That certainly includes playing the game, but there might even be more excitement about figuring out how the characters, enemies, locations and more fit into the overall grand scheme of Sonic’s world.

SEGA knows that fans are hyper-vigilant when it comes to Sonic lore, and they keep all of that in mind when crafting each Sonic game. The process was no different with Sonic Superstars, and in an interview with Eurogamer, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka reveals exactly where Sonic Superstars fits on the Sonic timeline.

The Classic series began with Sonic 1 in 1991, and Sonic Adventure marked the switch to the Modern series in 1998. So in terms of the Sonic timeline, Sonic Superstars occurs after Sonic Mania and before Sonic Adventure. Whenever we develop a new game, we always make sure the story fits with the lore.
