You might not know it by playing, but the process used to create the audio for COCOON is unlike any other game out there. While the end result is an absolutely amazing soundscape, that audio’s creation took an incredible amount of work.

GamesRadar spoke to Jakob Schmid, Geometric Interactive co-founder, audio director, and composer about the unique approach he took for COCOON. Believe it or not, every single thing you hear in the game, from creature noises to moments of music, were all created from scratch for the experience.

“No samples, no recorded sound. For the whole project we have been working synthetically. For rain and thunder, animals and robots, all these things we just had to invent techniques.”
