Earlier this week, SEGA said their goal for Sonic is to surpass Mario in both movies and games. The company is talking about the quality of those products and their success, but the latest figures from SEGA show that Sonic’s been doing just fine over the years.

SEGA has revealed that the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise has moved 1.6 billion units as of March 2023. This figure has risen 7% compared to last year, and that’s thanks to the release of multiple Sonic games across various formats.

If the 1.6 billion figure seems a little outlandish, you have to realize that SEGA is including Sonic full game sales and downloads of free-to-play titles to get to that number. While we don’t have the official breakdown, there’s no doubt the majority of that figure comes from downloads.
