Kevin Afghani confirms his role as Wario on Twitter

Let's give him a warm Wario welcome

Speculation has been running rampant about the new voices behind iconic Mario characters ever since Charles Martinet departed from the roles. Voice actor Kevin Afghani was officially named as the new voice of Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but Wario’s latest appearance in WarioWare: Move It! wasn’t quite as clear cut.

Afghani’s name did appear in the WarioWare: Move It! credits, leading most to assume that he was behind the new version of Wario. However, a specific character wasn’t actually directly to him. Now, it seems pretty certain that he’s taken over the title role, if this recent post on Twitter is anything to go by:

Seemingly doing a Wario impression via text, Afghani says “Twitter stinks! I’m leaving! I’m going back to playing the game I’m in WARIOWARE: MOVE IT!!”

This may not be as concrete as Nintendo coming out and declaring his status as Wario, but it’s probably as close as we’re going to get any time soon. Like Martinet before him, Afghani is now taking on the mantle of both Wario and the Mario Bros. themselves. Is Waluigi soon to follow? It seems likely, but we’ll have to wait and see what future Mario games bring.

He's good. I hope he's happy doing the voice of the most memorable characters for years to come. He's the best replacement Nintendo can get right now.
