Today, Nintendo rocked the world by announcing that a live-action Legend of Zelda movie is in the works. Nintendo also confirmed that they’re working with legendary producer Avi Arad and Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring the film to life.

Of course, as soon as Nintendo revealed that the film was in the works, fans wanted to know as much as possible. One of the biggest questions is when the film is coming out, but we’re not going to have that info for awhile. What we did get was a little insight from Shigeru Miyamoto on how long the project has been in the works.

Miyamoto shared a message on Nintendo’s official X account in Japan, and he confirmed that this movie has been in development for quite some time now. You can see Miyamoto’s message in full below.

This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.

C'mon Deux, give us the details already! They just have to be true this week.

“I am not the producer, but I do know him!”

(Speaking of time, the original version of that quote is almost 20 years old.)

Miyamoto’s involvement is what gives me the most confidence on this project. Really hoping Avi Arad doesn’t pull an Avi Arad and ruin it.

Sorry but I have even less hope for this to be good than the Mario movie and I thought that turned out subpar. The info we currently have spells out generic for me.
