Universal reconfirms The Super Mario Bros. Movie as a franchise

Spoiler alert! If you saw The Super Mario Bros. Movie, you no doubt know there are plans for at least one more follow-up. Universal and Nintendo haven’t officially said a sequel is in the works, but there’s no denying the post-credits teasers heavily suggest that one is on the way.

While we’re still waiting on the official announcement from the powers that be, a corporate profile for a Universal employee shows that the studio certainly has more plans for Mario. According to the Universal Pictures profile for Donna Langley, chairman and CCO, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is considered a ‘franchise’ by the studio.

Again, it’s not really breaking news that Universal and Nintendo are going to team up for a sequel. With the incredible success of the first movie, there’s no doubt both companies are eager to follow things up with an even bigger adventure. Now we’ll just have to sit back and wait for the announcement!
