Nintendo fans have an absolutely huge collection of Castlevania games at their disposal across a wide variety of platforms, which is what makes the next fact so crazy. In all of Nintendo’s history with the franchise, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has never made its way to a Nintendo platform. We hope that changes one day, but until it does, Nintendo fans have a new fan project to look forward to.

Castlevania super fan LDD has taken on the Herculean task of porting Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to the Game Boy, of all platforms. Castlevania: SotN wasn’t exactly pushing the Playstation to its limits back in the day, but there’s no doubt bringing the game to Game Boy is going to require an absolute ton of work.

In the videos below, you can see the progress that LDD has made so far, and it’s extremely impressive. That said, LDD has a long way to go until the demake is finished, but good things come to those who wait. Best of all, this isn’t just a demake that looks like a Game Boy game. The aim is to have the final game run on actual Game Boy hardware, and you can see that tested multiple times throughout the videos below.

We’ll be sure to keep up with the project as it progresses, but clearly it’s off to a fantastic start.
