Here in the states, Google reigns supreme when it comes to internet searches. It’s been that way for years now and will likely remain that way for decades to come. There are certainly other search engines available, and other parts of the world prefer some of the alternatives. Case in point, Japan’s fondness for the Yahoo! search engine.
At the end of every year, Yahoo! Japan puts out their Search Awards, which reveal the top searches in numerous categories. Gaming is always a topic of discussion, and Yahoo! Japan has just released the top 5 searches of 2023. It was nearly a Nintendo sweep this time around, as you can see in the breakdown below.
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
- Pokemon Sleep
- Pikmin 4
- Honkai: Star Rail
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had a stranglehold on Yahoo! Japan game searches in 2023, but Nintendo did extremely well overall. Looks like Nintendo’s place atop the charts in Japan is going to continue into 2024!
