Earlier today we shared the latest round of hardware/software sales news in the United States, and with that comes a new milestone achieved by the Big N.

Circana doesn’t release actual hardware figures month-to-month, but they have the data and can crunch the details. With the latest round of Switch sales right here in the states, we now know that the platform has officially become the third best-selling gaming hardware in the nation since Circana started tracking data in 1995.

The Switch achieved this stat by surpassing total sales of the Xbox 360 here in the United States. That means it has just two more platforms to topple in order to become the best-selling gaming hardware ever; the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2.

A massive achievement that has not only directly influenced creations of devices like the steam deck, but also makes me pretty emotional thinking about Iwata and his greater legacy. He laid almost all of the ground work for the creative and financial golden age we’re all enjoying now. There will never be a more honorable, knowledgeable, ethical, and passionate chief executive or president of a multi-national billion dollar company ever again. We miss you (also I think with the right price drop next year it has a chance to take the top spot, maybe 18 months from now?)

You know what; as cynically as I interpreted this line, I think you may very well be right about this.
