Detective Pikachu was right at the forefront of the wave of game-to-movie adaptations that started to click with audiences. Actually, it might have been just a little bit ahead of that curve, giving a jumpstart to the current wave of success we’re seeing right now. The film also did well at the box office, which might make you think a sequel’s a lock. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case right now.

There are certainly plenty of people who want to see a follow-up to Detective Pikachu and the first film leaves lots of room to explore the story further, but nothing official has been shared just yet. There have been rumblings online for awhile now about things going ahead for a sequel film, but now we’ve heard a conflicting report from the original movie’s star.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Detective Pikachu actor Justice Smith is waiting for info on a sequel just like the rest of us. According to Smith, he’s “not heard of any movement,” although he has seen the same rumors online that fans have. Smith went on to say that he’s, “just waiting for that call,” so hopefully he gets it soon!

“I have not heard of any movement. I mean, I know what was released online, but no one has called me. So I’m just waiting for that call.”
