Mortal Kombat 1 (2021) ended up being quite the hit, which is especially impressive considering when the movie released. The Mature-rated film ended up being streaming service Max’s most-wanted original movie at the time of release thanks to millions watching from home due to the pandemic, yet millions more also traveled to theaters to check it out. Turns out Mortal Kombat’s second trip to cinemas ended up being an even bigger hit than the first outing in 1995!

The success of Mortal Kombat’s cinematic reboot made a sequel pretty much a lock, and the studios involved were quick to move on that follow-up. Filming has been going on over the last few months, with things pushed back due to the various strikes in Hollywood. Once those issues were taken care of, filming got back underway and all worked incredibly hard to get the film in the can.

As of today, it’s been confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 has officially wrapped filming. This news came from actor Lewis Tan, who shared news of the film’s wrap party from the shoot. Tan played the role of Cole Young in the first Mortal Kombat movie, an original character that’ll be making a return in the sequel.

Mortal Kombat 2 doesn’t have a solid release date at this time, but a late 2024/early 2025 launch seems doable. We’ll bring you release date information when it becomes available.
