Vanillaware has been very upfront about their efforts in Unicorn Overlord, as they appear to be incredibly proud of the project. The studio has already revealed that this game is their biggest to date, which certainly makes sense when you learn how long its been in development for.

In a Game Informer feature, lead game designer Wataru Nakanishi revealed that Unicorn Overlord was in development alongside 13 Sentinels, which saw its original release all the way back in 2019. That means Unicorn Overlord has been cooking long before that, and the team has been taking their time to get things just right.

With the game being Vanillaware’s biggest yet, it’s no surprise to learn that it’s also jam-packed with content. Nakanishi says that dedicated players that just pay attention to the main story should be able to see the credits roll at the 50 hour mark, but if you’re one who likes to explore and tackle side content, you could get 100 hours out of the experience.

Unicorn Overlord is dubbed the rebirth of tactical fantasy RPG. Fight against fate and embark on a royal adventure to regain your reign alongside trustworthy allies. Unicorn Overlord combines the timeless tactical RPG genre with overworld exploration and innovative battle system for a unique epic fantasy experience in the iconic Vanillaware style.
