Back when Vanillaware was crafting 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, they put literally everything they had into the game from a monetary standpoint. Prior to the game’s launch, the studio had run out of funding and was banking on 13 Sentinels being a hit. Thankfully that was very much the case, as the game went on to both critical and commercial success. Now the studio is finding themselves right back in that situation with their newest title.

Vanillaware already revealed that Unicorn Overlord is the biggest game they’ve ever made, so it should come as no surprise that it was incredibly expensive as well. While a number wasn’t given, Vanillaware’s CEO George Kamitani did say that the studio had once again run dry in terms of funding. That means the pressure is on once again, and Unicorn Overlord needs to bring in the big bucks.

We’ll all find out the fate of Unicorn Overlord soon enough, as the title is set to launch on March 8th, 2024. If you’re still on the fence about picking this one up, you can hop on the Switch eShop right now and grab a free demo. Impressions from gamers and press alike has been incredibly positive, so let’s hope lightning strikes twice for Vanillaware.

I sure hope it pays off. Every single game that Vanillaware has created has been an absolute banger. And Unicorn Overlord is the unofficial return of Ogre Battle that I've waited for for 25 years. The demo is amazing as well, so you know it's good.
