Nintendo has dabbled with pseudo-VR experiences in the past, both through the Virtual Boy and much better realized through Nintendo Labo. It’s clear Nintendo has some sort of interest in the VR space, but it’s not likely they’ll go headfirst into the arena anytime soon. That leaves the VR space open for hobbyist developers, which brings us to the video above.

James Lambert decided to try an absolutely bonkers project in trying to get a Virtual Reality experience running on the N64. There are all sorts of steps that need to be taken and the end result isn’t exactly perfect, but as a proof of concept, it does seem that there’s a way to enjoy a virtual reality experience through Nintendo’s decades-old console.

Lambert even tried getting the NES Power Glove working for the experiment, but he had some issues this time around. It does sound like he’s going to give things another go at some point, but for now he’s got buggy, but functional N64 VR experience. It’ll be interesting to see how this project grows from here!

Thanks to d_says_hi for the heads up!
