As you no doubt know, the Wii U and 3DS online servers are now shut down. You can’t play any Wii U or 3DS games online anymore, nor can you access online content for those games. That means some titles and DLC content have completely vanished, lost to the time and memories of gamers.

Some of Dragon Quest VII’s DLC content was on the chopping block as well, and that didn’t sit right with Dragon Quest fan Gronya. That’s why they set out to snag all the DLC before the servers were switched off, but doing so was no easy task.

There are 56 DLC maps in Dragon Quest VII on 3DS, and you have to complete the game’s third island to access most of them, with even more waiting as post-game content. This is a pretty Herculean task, but Gronya wasn’t going to let that stop her. She started a clean save and followed along with a speedrunning guide in a race against the server shutdown, all in the name of preservation.
