Sonic Team says "hopefully there's a good chance" for Sonic characters from the comics to appear in games

The Sonic universe is filled with a litany of characters. Some of them only popped up in a single game, while others have become mainstays for the franchise. There are so many characters it can be hard to keep up with, but things get exponentially tougher when you turn to the comics.
The IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series is chock-full of faces you’ve never seen in the games. Fans have been saying for years now that there are some amazing characters that deserve a chance at appearing in the game franchise, and now it seems like Sonic Team agrees.
In an interview with Sonic Stadium, Takashi Iizuka of Sonic Team was asked about the potential for comic characters to make the leap over to Sonic games. While nothing is set in stone, it does seem like the potential is there.
I do work closely with the team at IDW when they’re making their new characters, and really making sure we’re having lots of fun in making really good characters. And I know in the mobile games we have released or will release the IDW characters. So as far as the potential future of IDW characters appearing in games, hopefully there’s a good chance.
