The future of gaming is now!
As awesome as the Power Glove is, we have to be honest about the device. It’s not the best way to play video games, and that goes for games on the NES as well. Still, there’s something to be said about the Power Glove. It aimed to go beyond what gaming used for input at the time, and while it missed the target, you have to appreciate the attempt.
Nowadays, motion-controlled gaming and unique inputs is par for the course, so there’s no useful reason to revisit the Power Glove. That doesn’t mean there’s no reason at all, though! Some people just like to see what’s possible, for better or worse. That’s exactly the case with the YouTube channel Will it Work, which aims to bring retro hardware to modern platforms.
Their latest efforts worked to bring the Power Glove to the PlayStation 5, and they did indeed get it to work…but not for long. A number of issues prevent the Power Glove from being usable for more than 8 minutes, but that’s still enough time to see how it works with some modern-day games. See how everything came together in the video above.
