The Toy of the Year Awards recognize the top toys, games and licenses, with winners decided by votes cast by the public and industry based on a pool of finalists determined by expert judges. The Game of the Year category is evaluated based on the product’s creativity, design, playability and marketing, and was previously won by The Pokémon Company International in 2021 for its Pokémon TCG Battle Academy release.

This time around, the Pokémon Company International has announced that the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): Pokémon GO Elite Trainer Box has been awarded Game of the Year at The Toy Foundation’s September 2022 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards.

Barry Sams, vice president of the trading card game at The Pokémon Company International, commented on the win, and you can see his full statement on the matter below.

“The Pokémon TCG has been an iconic part of the Pokémon brand for over 25 years, and it’s a joy to witness so many fans rekindle their love for the game through this special crossover with one of the most popular mobile games in the world. We’re honored that the Pokémon GO Elite Trainer Box has been recognized for bringing a unique spin on the classic Pokémon TCG, and we look forward to delivering even more new exciting products as we gear up for 2023.”
