Every splatter of ink. Every red shell. Every moment of colorful victory and last-second wave of the checkered flag. On April 12 and 13 in the U.S. (April 13/14 in Japan), the world will be watching – but more importantly, the world will once again be playing together. Who will win it all and take home the championship glory?

Nintendo of America can’t wait to cheer on all of the players representing North America at the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 and the first-ever Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024. Both events were rescheduled after originally planned for Nintendo Live 2024 TOKYO, and fans around the world will be able to tune in and watch on the official Nintendo YouTube Channel, with the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 Round Robin kicking off on April 12 at 10 p.m. PST, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024 starting on April 13 at 7 p.m. PST and the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 finals happening on April 13 at 10 p.m. PST.

North America will have a big presence at both events, with an individual player and a team prepared to face off against opponents from Europe, Japan, Hong Kong/Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, and South Korea. Follow their ongoing stories as they compete for international bragging rights:

Jackpot’s Big Comeback: The Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 represents something special for team “Jackpot,” comprised of players Madness, Leafi, Jared, .q, max! and Ren. After being eliminated in the first round of the Splatoon 3 Enter the Splatlands Invitational 2022 (held during PAX West), Jackpot rebounded with a huge win at the Splatoon 3 Championship 2023 at Nintendo Live 2023 SEATTLE – punching their ticket to Japan for the World Championship tournament.

When asked to describe their strategy, Jackpot prides themselves on their balance between fast-paced, take-no-prisoners attacks and “fun, goofy” unpredictability.

Kevo’s Need For Speed: Being the first player from Mexico to ever win a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe North American tournament isn’t enough for Kevo. He hopes to harness his aggressive style to dominate his international rivals the way he did during the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2023 at PAX East 2023. Kevo earned his trip to Japan with another dominant recent performance, this one a successful defense of his North American Champion crown at Nintendo Live 2023 SEATTLE.

To celebrate the Pokémon video game series and the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games, Nintendo showcased a hand-painted mural at PAX East 2024. The mural highlights the unique character transformation mechanic called “Terastallization” and features a fun design with the Pokémon Eevee, taking center stage. Attending Trainers also had the opportunity to meet Pikachu and Eevee costumed characters, interact with the mural and demo the latest entries in the Pokémon RPG series. You can find a complete description for each photo below.

Prior to PAX East 2024, Nintendo never made a peep about having a presence at the big show. Nintendo usually trumpets their attendance at all versions of PAX, which made it a little odd to find out they were attending this year’s PAX East through the show’s floor map. With the video above, now we know why.

Nintendo is keeping things incredibly modest at PAX East this year with a very subdued booth that puts the focus completely on Pokémon. The booth doesn’t offer anything in the way of new hands-on demos to experience, and instead focuses on Pokémon titles that are currently available on Switch.

If you swing by Nintendo’s PAX East 2024 booth, you can go hands-on with titles like Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Detective Pikachu Returns. Remember, there’s also a separate Pokémon Co. booth, so if you want even more pocket monster action at PAX East, don’t forget to stop in!

Prior to its release, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will be on display with a playable demo available at PAX East 2024, one of the largest gaming events in North America, to be held in Boston from Thursday, March 21st through Sunday, March 24th. A special video featuring GhM and SotD:HR at PAX East will be posted to the Grasshopper Archives YouTube channel at a later date, so keep an eye out for that, too.

Nintendo will have a booth at PAX East 2024

Nintendo has attended numerous PAX events in the past, bringing with them big booths, tons of game demos, plenty of merch and more. PAX East 2024 is running March 21st to 24th, 2024 this year, but Nintendo hasn’t made a peep about being at this year’s show. While we’re still waiting to hear from them on the matter, it seems they will indeed be attending.

The official floor map for PAX East 2024 has popped up online, and it shows that Nintendo is occupying a sizable chunk of the hall. Again, we don’t know what Nintendo will be bringing with them game-wise, but demos for their latest Switch games and long-tail sellers seems like the most likely suspects. Of course, you can rest assured there will be plenty of goodies to scoop up and photo opps as well.

While we didn’t know Nintendo would be at PAX East 2024, we learned awhile back that Pokémon Co. would be in attendance. They’ll have a decent space on the show floor some distance away from Nintendo’s block, but make sure to head over and check out what they have on display. From merch to games and more, both Nintendo and Pokémon Co’s booths should keep you quite entertained!

Thanks to Edward for the heads up!

The team behind the EarthBound USA documentary has announced that those attending PAX EAST 2024 will have a chance to check out the feature at the big show. EarthBound USA will be screened at PAX East 2024, and there will also be a Q&A right after. If you’re interested in attending the screening, it takes place March 23rd, 2024 at 8:30 PM in the Dragonfly Theatre.

EarthBound, USA is a movie about discovering the power of online community, butting heads with corporate goliaths and your own looming adulthood, and dealing with your fan site becoming the cult behind one of the most infamous cult-classic videogames of all time, all set in the Wild West of Web 1.0.

EarthBound USA began life in 2013 as a passion project started by writer & director Jazzy Benson. Inspired by the internet folklore surrounding EarthBound ’s U.S. fanbase, and from hearing the insider stories behind Starmen.Net’s legendary petitions and letter-writing campaigns, Jazzy aimed to create a documentary that evokes the atmosphere and environments of a passionate fan community growing up online from one decade to the next.

This independent feature-length documentary of epic proportions was a featured component of Fangamer’s “You Are Now EarthBound” Kickstarter in 2014. Over the years the production staff grew from one to seven people, and the team worked to track down the story of EarthBound ’s release and revival by speaking with the unique voices that experienced it firsthand. Interviews with the game’s creator, former Nintendo employees, members of the 90s gaming press, and the webmasters and community behind Starmen.Net, have been combined with period-appropriate sets, quirky performances, and fast and surprising narrative techniques to present over 20 years of history and personal connections.

EarthBound USA is now available to stream digitally or purchase physically through Fangamer.
