Nintendo is doing a bit of website housekeeping in the new year, as they’ve announced a change for their official domain in Japan.

Announced via social media, Nintendo will be revamping the domain that takes you to their official Japanese website. As things stand now, Nintendo fans in Japan could see what Nintendo was up to by going to Nintendo.co.jp. That’s all coming to an end tomorrow, Feb. 26th, as Nintendo is switching up the address.

Anyone looking to visit Nintendo’s Japanese site going forward will have to use the address nintendo.com/jp, although the previous address will redirect for some time after the switch. This will put Nintendo’s Japanese site in line with how their other websites work in places like North America.

According to Nintendo, they are making this domain change due to “server environment improvements.”

2023 may have been done and dusted for a couple of months now, but Nintendo isn’t ready to move on just yet. The Big N would like to take one more look back at some of the tournament action they hosted last year, and they’re doing so with a special video.

Relive the action from the Nintendo European Championships 2023, where Germany’s team KaiZer took home the trophy for Splatoon 3, and France’s Thomas emerged victorious in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ahead of their trip to Japan for the World Championship 2024 on April 13th-14th!

There’s plenty of official Nintendo tournament action to look forward to in 2024, and there’s no doubt all sorts of amazing feats and fearsome battles will take place. We can’t wait to see what ends up making the 2024 highlight reel!

Nintendo of Europe now handling distribution in Saudi Arabia

Taking over for Nintendo of Japan

02 March 2024

Nintendo of Europe is now handling all Nintendo operations in Saudi Arabia, including marketing, online infrastructure, and distribution via AIC Trading. Previously, Nintendo’s presence in Saudi Arabia was handled by Nintendo Co. Ltd. in Japan. This news comes to us from NintendoSoup, who reports that the change came into effect sometime in the second half of 2023.

Nintendo customers currently living in Saudi Arabia can expect to see some changes going forward in the way that they purchase and receive games. It seems likely that Nintendo of Europe will implement an improved online distribution system, allowing residents to more easily buy and access download codes for games on the Switch eShop. This would mirror NOE’s actions in other regions such as Israel, South Africa, and Australia.

Outside of Saudi Arabia, the rest of the Middle East is still being handled by Nintendo of Japan, although this could change in the future. We also saw Nintendo France and Nintendo Benelux absorbed into Nintendo of Europe last summer, so it isn’t unusual to see them taking more regions under their umbrella.

We’ll see how this change affects customers in Saudi Arabia throughout 2024, as well as how things carry over to Nintendo’s eventual Switch successor. Hopefully, all developments are positive. Click here for a more detailed breakdown of what this shift could mean.
