For their next project, WayForward is resurrecting the classic Atari game Yars’ Revenge. Their sequel is called Yars Rising, and it’s a pretty big departure from the original in many ways. Recently, WayForward CEO Voldi Way and Yars Rising designer James Montagna sat down at IGN Live 2024 to talk more about what the game has to offer.

In addition to showing off a brand new gameplay trailer, WayForward shared insight into the game’s development and inspirations, as well as what lessons they took from working with Nintendo on Advance Wars 1+2 ReBoot Camp. You can watch the full interview above, or check out the highlights here:

  • 20 different music artists from North America, Australia, and Japan worked on a variety of music genres for Yars Rising
  • Several different types of gameplay are featured: side-scrolling action, platforming, light stealth elements, and hacking minigames
  • Hacking minigames are specifically inspired by the original Yars’ Revenge on Atari
  • The world and storytelling were inspired by anime, features a fully voiced cast of diverse characters and cyberpunk aesthetic
  • Other game influences include various Metroidvanias, Mega Man, and Wario-Ware for the hacking minigames
  • Yars Rising will come out sometime later this year

At some point during the Switch’s lifespan, there was at least a little bit of chatter about the potential for Final Fantasy XIV on the platform. While the desire was there, the plan never panned out. That doesn’t mean the dream is completely dead for Nintendo fans though…

During an interview with Easy Allies, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida was asked about interest in bringing the game over to the Switch’s successor. While there wasn’t a 100% commitment, Yoshida made it very clear that there’s interest in making the port happen.

“My dream, or goal, for more than ten years at this points is for players to be able to play Final Fantasy XIV regardless of device, and be able to access the servers to go in and access the same world. … we’ve been talking for years to bring the game on the Xbox platform, and so of course we would love to have our title available on the Nintendo platform, and we do want to continue our efforts. But it did take a lot of time – with Xbox, we literally have talked for years, and it is now finally coming to fruition. We will try our best and continue to work hard at it and continue our efforts. Eventually, it would be cool – something that we would love to sort of explore and make a reality one day.”

[Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy XIV director]

We certainly know that if a port did happen, hardware power wouldn’t be a concern anymore. In other words, it seems like it would just be a matter of time, money and resource allotment to make it happen. Let’s hope with Square Enix’s renewed interest in multiplatform gaming, they put some serious consideration into bringing Final Fantasy XIV on Switch’s successor.

Control stick drift has unfortunately been a burden for the Switch since it’s launch in 2017, however GuliKit has been offering a solution. For a while the peripheral manufacturer has sold stand alone Hall effect “anti-drift” sticks for Joy-Con and now The Verge is reporting they plan to expand this offering to other controllers.

GuliKit plans to release Hall effect control stick upgrade kits for Sony DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox Series gamepad, and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. To be clear, these are not full controllers but rather control sticks that you will have to attach yourself so while it’s not an ideal solution to the drift problem it is still an option for those frustrated with the state of their controllers.

Other than the confirmation these kits will be available to purchase later this year and the promise they contain “a very new patented technology which is different from our current hall effect joystick.” there isn’t much additional information at this time. We will keep you updated on new details of these stick kits as they become relevant.

We’ve had plenty of stories over the years about stolen Nintendo game cards and hardware, but none of them have been quite like this.

A woman was trying to leave Hong Kong for a trip to China when Customs stopped her due her nervous nature and ill-fitting top. The woman was taken to a private area for inspection, which is when the Customs agents found 350 Switch game cards crammed into her bra. The value of the game card collection was just shy of $10k.

In China, “hiding, disguising, concealing declarations, false declarations or other means, transporting, carrying, or mailing goods that are prohibited or restricted from entry or exit by the state.” If you’re going through things the legal route, you would have to pay taxes on the items you’re bringing in. It seems unlikely Switch game cards would fall into the “restricted” category of goods, but there was definitely some fines being dodged. On top of that, it seems probable that these game cards were obtained through ill-gotten measures.

While we don’t know the legal outcome for this woman yet, she’ll likely have to pay a fine that’s at least triple what she would have paid if she took the legal route.

You might remember that way back in 2019 The House of the Dead 2: Remake was announced alongside The House of the Dead: Remake. While that original remake has been available since 2022, we haven’t really heard a peep about the sequel. That is, until today…

PEGI has just added in a rating for The House of the Dead 2: Remake, which no doubt signals that the sequel should be seeing release in the not-too-distant future. Again, we already knew this remake was in the works, but seeing the rating pops up shows that things have indeed been moving along behind the scenes.

With a Nintendo Direct slated for sometime this month and this The House of the Dead 2: Remake rating surfacing, you have to wonder if Nintendo, SEGA and Forever Entertainment are planning a reveal during the presentation. Well, we’ll find out if that’s the case over the next 2+ weeks!

RedDeer.Games, a developer and publisher that specializes in games for Nintendo Switch, has announced the release date of their new puzzle game – Fit My Zoo. Players will now have the chance to go on holiday with a couple of wacky animals. What are these guys trying to do? Fit on a pool floatie. To go on a holiday with those goobers and assist them during the floatie crisis, players will be able to grab the game today.

Many have heard of cats trying to sit anywhere they can fit, be it cardboard boxes or kitchen pots. In Fit My Zoo a group of animals decided to go on vacation to a luxurious hotel with an exterior pool. A dream come true, isn’t it? Well, it would be one if not for the fact that there is only one floatie…

The players’ task will be to pick up said animals and fit them all on the floatie. From giraffes and hippos to chameleons and sloths – animals of all shapes and sizes want a piece.

Arranging these guys might feel like herding cats at some points (I’m looking at you, lion) but nothing is impossible with a bit of rotating. Players will be able to pick up each animal and align it as much as they want to fit it perfectly onto the floatie.

Fit My Zoo will have 96 levels and 28 unique animals to sort. All of them have their own quirks and moving parts – like the sassy glance of a capybara or funky balancing act of a flamingo. Hand-drawn, quirky characters and chill vibes of the perfect summer trip will help players ease themselves into their own holiday season.

In Railbreak’s fully-voiced and hilarious Story mode, battle through six acts packed with disgusting, larger than life monsters in an alternate version of Cypress Ridge where the only way out is to shoot, shoot, and shoot some more. Unlock additional characters with unique weapons and perks, and take them for a spin in five additional modes. Take on any act from the main Story with another character in Score Attack mode. Survive for as long as you can in the endless Onslaught mode. Endure a randomized version of the main campaign where the modifiers are constant and anything can happen in Glitch Gauntlet. Lay waste to each of the game’s challenging super monsters in Boss Rush. Scratch the itch for a quick round with a unique scenario in Shoutout Shootout. Every mode in Railbreak can be played with traditional rules or with the Time Korrisis game-type where the clock is ticking and slaughtering enemies is the only way to extend your playthrough.

The Nintendo Switch version of Railbreak features full touch support for those who prefer to tap-and-shoot. This control scheme even supports a unique and optional dual-wielding configuration in single player. Dismember zombies and quickly collect hidden items with precise taps for a slightly more relaxed experience. Playing the game’s higher difficulties with touch controls is sure to be an adrenaline rush.

Step back into the arcade, and clean the plagued streets of Cypress Ridge in Railbreak for Nintendo Switch. It’s survival of the fittest, and the fittest brought guns.
